Four Gate Whiskey Company Wins Three!

FGWC Wins Two Double Platinum Medals and a Gold Medal at the 2024 ASCOT Awards

LOUISVILLE, KY, May 21st, 2024 - Four Gate Whiskey Company is proud to announce the latest medals for its trophy case of awards-winning bourbon and rye whiskeys.

The Kelvin Collaboration V was awarded the highest medal available, Double Platinum, in the category of Special Barrel-Finished Bourbon. The ASCOT judges noted “Dark cherries, chocolate and almonds on the nose; more off the same on the palate, plus caramel, molasses and spicy red pepper. Great flavors, nice structure…a fine bourbon.”

Andalusia Key Rye was also awarded the Double Platinum medal in the Special Barrel-Finished Rye category. The Judging note reads “A rich, sweet, and incredibly well-balanced rye that is unique and right up my alley.”

Both will go on to compete for the best-in-class competition on June 4 ^th on the Spirits Network.

In addition, Kelvin Sixty was awarded a Gold medal in the Straight Bourbon Category. Judges said “Sherry and cherries galore! Here is a very interesting dram with a nice cocoa note on the finish.”

The medals mark the 7 ^th , 8 ^th , and 9 ^th ASCOT Awards Four Gate Whiskey Company has earned in the competition since its inception in 2021.

ASCOT Awards is an international spirits competition created by spirits personality and veteran tasting judge, Fred Minnick. The competition provides a unique opportunity for distillers to have their products recognized through Fred’s YouTube channel, social media, news articles, newsletters, and festivals.

Four Gate The Kelvin Collaboration VI Blend of Straight Bourbons

Kentucky-based blending house Four Gate has released Kelvin Collaboration VI, a blend of three 9-year-old Kentucky bourbons made with different mashbills. The blend was first finished in Madeira casks before undergoing a second finish in casks that previously held dark rum from the Florida Keys. The casks were sourced with help from Kelvin Cooperage.

Four Gate released its first whisky back in 2019. The founders had sourced more than 100 barrels of 9–11-year-old whiskey and blended 14 of the oldest ones. The final blend was finished in sherry casks that were used for aging rum and were selected by neighboring Kelvin Cooperage. That expression, dubbed The Kelvin Collaboration , became the first in a line of annual releases.

Four Gate has a track record of achieving high scores , but the Kelvin Collaboration series is in a realm of its own. Thus far, none of them have scored below 93. Much of their acclaim comes from a masterful utilization of layered cask finishes—each bottling features either a dual cask finish or a single finish in casks that have held two different wines/spirits. All of them utilize a rum cask at some point, but VI is the first time we’ve seen Madeira casks added to the mix.

LOUISVILLE, KY, April 23rd, 2024 - Four Gate Whiskey Company is proud to announce the latest success for its portfolio of award-winning whiskeys by announcing that the flagship release, Split Stave by Kelvin has been awarded a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition with a score of 95 points.

“We are thrilled to receive this award,” said co-founder and Chief Barrel Officer, Bob D’Antoni, “We’ve been blessed to have won a number of awards for our batches over the years, but this is a big one!”

Split Stave by Kelvin is considered the flagship label for Four Gate Whiskey Company as it is the only label widely available year-round, as the rest of their portfolio consists of limited-release products available on in limited quantities for a specific period in time. It is a 7-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey secondarily aged in new white oak “Split Stave” casks produced exclusively for the company by Kelvin Cooperage which are constructed with alternating toasted and charred staves inside the barrel.

“We’re so proud of this award,” said co-founder and Chief Blending Officer, Bill Straub. “The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is about as good as it gets in the industry. To win double gold is really amazing. I think it says a lot about the quality of whiskey we put in a bottle.”

Four Gate Whiskey Company is releasing its first whiskey of 2024, a Kentucky Straight Whiskey finished in two different barrels from Kelvin Cooperage. The underlying seven-year-old Kentucky Straight Whiskey was distilled with a mash bill of 80% corn, 11% rye, and 9% malted barley. It was initially aged 7 years in used barrels. Four Gate Whiskey re-barreled the whiskey into new charred barrels from Kelvin Cooperage and then again into new toasted casks, also from Kelvin, resulting in a whiskey that has been aged in three different barrels and aged a total

of seven years, nine months.

The idea for a triple-oaked whiskey was first proposed several years ago by the late Kevin McLaughlin of Kelvin Cooperage. Four Gate Chief Barrel Officer, Bob D'Antoni, kept the idea in the back of his mind until the right whiskey came along to make McLaughlin's idea a reality. To honor the genesis of the Triple Oak idea, Four Gate has displayed the Kelvin Cooperage Logo on the sub-label for the batch. It is the first straight whiskey Four Gate has bottled that doesn't qualify as bourbon or rye due to the initial again in previously used cooperage.

"This whiskey turned out nicely. It's a different flavor profile than a lot of our previous offerings," said Chief Blending Officer Bill Straub. "There is a distinct semi-sweet pie crust note throughout with green orchard fruits and strong baking spice. I love the unique flavor of this. Our fans are going to enjoy it."

"We are just really thrilled to bring Kevin's idea to life," Said D'Antoni, "I-le was such a great friend to me and to our company and we are confident this whiskey is worthy of his memory."

The whiskey was bottled at 53.8% alcohol, or 107.6 proof. 3,798 bottles were produced at an SRP of $199. It will be offered to all distributors in all markets in which Four Gate Whiskey Company is sold along with Seelbachs.com, Bourbonoutfitter.com, Shared Pour.com, and Caskers.com starting on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024.

This is the second year in a row, the Kelvin Collaboration series from Four Gate Whiskey Company has received the "Best Special Barrel Finished Whiskey" award from the ASCOT Awards.

The ASCOT Awards, a premier international spirits competition led by Fred Minnick that recognizes top selections from across the globe, became the first-ever spirits competition to air its results on National Television as 2023’s Best In Show winners were announced via the Spirits Network and on Vizio Channel 505.

The American Spirits Council of Tasters (ASCOT) comprises 43 seasoned professionals who blind-taste and score competing spirits. This year, the ASCOTs received more than 1,100 entries, announcing the Best In Category winners in May before narrowing down the category winners. The ASCOT judges determined the best bourbon, best rye, best Scotch and more.
